Bahamas – May 2018

Hello again Friends.

Here we are now half-way through the year. Wow-where has time gone?

In May, I joined a group of local divers for the trip of a lifetime in the Bahamas. We headed out on a chartered Blackbeards 65′ Sea Explorer sailboat for a week of sailing, playing pirates, and of course scuba diving. And what would a scuba trip be without me taking along my camera to see what I could get–photo wise that is.

We headed out of Nassau and sailed south into the Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park and hit 16 dives in 5 days. It was a lot of diving, but certainly a lot of fun. While there were a ton of fish and coral life to gaze upon in awe and photograph, diving with the sharks was probably the highlight for me. Nothing that I can think of topped that experience.

Kudos and many happy thank you’s to my dive buddies for making this a wonderful trip and especially to those that spent time with me underwater: Michelle, Glenn, & Kyle.

I hope you enjoy these photographs.

Blessings.

Iceland 2017

Hi Everyone,

Back in late September, 2017, I traveled to Iceland for a few days with some friends after they completed teaching at one of their workshops on the island. We traveled to the Snæfellsnes peninsula for 3 days of intense shooting from the famous Budir Black Church, to the crashing coastlines, and ending up at the famous Kirkjufell mountain and waterfall.  We ended our last day at the lavafields at Hraunfossar and the Þingvellir National Park.

Iceland is a special place for me and even though I’ve been there only 2 times. As a landscape photographer I find myself longing to spend more and more time there and capture the beauty of the place before its gone forever or access to various places is restricted (which is a real possibility-thanks Justin Beiber).  As a human, I find God’s hand everywhere and I find my inner peace.

I look forward to my next trip, where this time I will spend up to 2 weeks traveling around the entire country.

I hope that you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Blessings,

Chris.

Diving the Puget Sound – Thanksgiving 2017

Hi Friends,

So over the summer I did something that I always wanted to do–learn to scuba dive. Work and raising a family have always been obstacles, but after discovering Hawaii last year and enjoying our time in the water Lynette gave me the awesome gift of lessons for my birthday this year. And after some classroom time, time in the pool, and certification dives in the Sound, my dream of being underwater was finally realized.

Now as a photographer, I am not satisfied just doing something for the sake of just doing it. I always need my camera and to photograph something relevant. It doesn’t matter whether that is hiking, or watching an airshow, I need my camera. And why would diving be any different? So, with new skills in hand and a camera capable of diving with me, off I go.

The following photographs are pictures that I took while diving this last weekend with my daughter. I still have a long way to go to master this new genre, but I think they are interesting enough to share.

For now, blessings and enjoy!

Chris.

New Years Eve on the Beach

Huh? New Years Eve?? It’s now September-isn’t it? I think so, so what business is it of mine to post something from New Years Eve?

Well, it’s my blog and I can do whatever I want. And since I haven’t posted these pictures anywhere yet, and since I’m bored tonight, I thought maybe I’d share a few photographs from a trip to the beach that Lynette and I took last NYE.

So enjoy. And as always, blessings to you. And if you don’t like the selfies, too bad. Hahaha. 😉

Horse, Horse, Horse, Cecil, and a Swan

Well, its only almost the end of August and I’m so far behind in my blog posts. Big surpise-right? Anyway, we were up in Bellingham last month taking some last engagement photographs of our son and his finance before their wedding. While Lynette was snapping away, I managed to get away and photograph some of the horses at the farm.

These are incredible animals and they were very cooperative for me. Thank you guys (and gals). It’s so much easier for everyone when we all behave. Haha.

Oh, and don’t forget the resident swan.

Blessings,

Chris.

Mt. Rainier Panoramic

Hi Friends,

The image below is an 8 photo panoramic I shot of Mt. Rainier taken yesterday. WAIT! You can’t see Rainier? Well neither could we (it should be in the upper right corner of this photo). But if you look closely you may see Mt. Adams off in the distance.

We got a real late start in the day and were hoping to get some sunset shots from Crystal Mountain, but it didn’t look like the clouds were going to break so we made the trek over to Sunrise in the hopes that getting closer might yield a shot or two. Well, it wasn’t to be. Perhaps next time (I will post a few others later on).

Blessings until next time,

Chris.

The Palouse – August 2016

Oh my goodness! Has it really been 3 months since I posted anything? I guess it has. Well shame on me.

Well, today I am posting a few pictures I took this last August on a trip to the Palouse in Eastern Washington. Many of you may know the area if you went to Washington State University (my alma matter). I accompanied my friend Jennifer King of Jennifer King Photography Workshops as she led a group of students though on their photographic learning journey.

Some of these shots were taken from Steptoe Butte, others from around the county. No time to visit WSU or get anything within Pullman (one of my favorite small cities). As you can see, the harvest of the wheat was in full-mode. There are a number of photographs here that are more of the “abstract” variety–something that I continue to play with.

I hope that you enjoy.

Blessings,

Chris.

Maui in May

Hello Friends,

We just arrived home from a fantastic week in Maui. Of course, we were there for both business and pleasure, with the pleasure being a celebration of our silver wedding anniversary (that is 25 years for all the newbs out there). 25 years is a long time to be with someone, but we are both completely dedicated to each other and never expected not to reach this point.

Anyway, enough with the mushy soap-box stuff. So while we were there, we managed to get out a couple of times to enjoy some of what Maui had to offer. We drove the Road to Hana and went on a few small hikes to see some waterfalls and other scenery, went Snuba diving and snorkeling, enjoyed a traditional luau and hula show, and enjoyed some fabulous sunsets.

The pictures below are but a sample of some of the wonderful things that Maui had to offer.

Thank you Maui for hosting us and we look forward to our return visit.

Blessings,

Chris

Around Washington, Part 1

Good day Friends! And happy Leap Year!

Well, I’ve been working on several projects lately, including an album (quickly turning into 2 albums) of Iceland. One of which is trying to accumulate some of my favorite various pictures from around Washington State. One of the challenges I’ve had is that I have pictures spread across 3 different computers using 3 different versions of Lightroom (which reminds me-another great big thank you to Adobe for making Lightroom and Photoshop subscription-based, I say very sarcastically). And trying to compile them to one spot without reworking a slew of pictures has become very problematic. But I digress. Another is that I haven’t really taken much landscape photographs in Washington State in the last few year (that should change this year). Most have been in Iceland, Nevada, Oregon, or somewhere in between.

Nevertheless, I post here for your enjoyment a few photographs from around Washington that I have taken in the last 2 years.

And now for the shameless plug, all photographs are available for purchase. Please email me or visit what I have on Fine Art America – Chris McKenna.

Stay tuned for Part 2 coming up with a few weeks.

Blessings,

Chris.
