CWU Football Scrimmage

I had the opportunity to go out and shoot a scrimmage of the Central Washington University football team on Saturday. I didn’t take a lot of photographs, but had a blast of fun in just a few minutes I was there.

Posted below are a few of my fav’s (click on the thumbnail to enlarge).

Enjoy and blessings,

Chris.

Brett’s Senior Photo Shoot-part deux

Well, we finally finished Brett’s senior photo shoot. After a 6 month break, schedules finally opened enough to get out on one of our few sunny days this spring, and get some stadium and park shots. As with his last photo session, Brett showed off all of his charisma. We focued on a stadium location to highlight Brett’s love of football and allow him an opportunity to show off his team jersey.

We wish you the best, Brett, on your football and college career at Central Washington University. Go Cardinals…Go Wildcats!

Girls Soccer-FPHS vs. Sumner

It has been a great soccer season for the Franklin Pierce high School girls, and they are now preparing for the last couple of regular season games.  Looks like they will be on to the play offs in November! These ladies have put in great effort and tremendous sportsmanship this year. With all of their hard work and new coaching staff (thanks Coaches Green and Pich!) they are poised for a quality record this year. Please enjoy a few photos from Thursday’s game against the powerhouse, Sumner.

Go Cards!

Franklin Pierce vs Fife High School Football – Sports Photography

Good evening,

I had another opportunity to photograph a high school football game on Friday night. I love doing this and I welcome every opportunity to do so, except perhaps in the rain and wind (haha).

Anyway, this past Friday I was out at Franklin Pierce Stadium again to shoot the Franklin Pierce High School Cardinals as they matched up against the Fife Trojans. It was a very cold, foggy night as you can see in some of these photographs.  While the entire game wasn’t shrouded in fog, a good portion of it was.

Fife prevailed in this epic battle on the gridiron.

One of my favorite shots is the “portrait” of two Fife underclassmen. They approached me on the sideline and asked me to take their photography. Of course, fella’s, my pleasure. 🙂

Blessings,

Chris.

Shot of the Day 10/20/2013

I had another opportunity to photograph a high school football game on Friday night. I love doing this and I welcome every opportunity to do so, except perhaps in the rain and wind (haha).

Anyway, this past Friday I was out at Franklin Pierce Stadium again to shoot the Franklin Pierce High School Cardinals as they matched up against the Fife Trojans. It was a very cold, foggy night as this photograph illustrates. This was about 1/2 through the first period when a bank of fog started to roll in. While the entire game wasn’t shrouded in fog, a good portion of it was. When I post more photographs from this game later in the week, you’ll see a number of them with played veiled by the soupy substance.

I was shooting with my Nikon D800 with a 70-200mm lens. And yes, the fog was wreaking havoc with metering.

Until later, blessings.

Sounders FC Reserves September 14, 2013

Taking a photograph of another individual is an honor to me, but taking photographs of athlete’s is something I love to do.

Yesterday, I was able to take some photographs of the Sounders FC reserve squad as they played the Real Salt Lake reserve at Starfire. I didn’t shoot the entire game, but in the half or so I was able to shoot I got some wonderful pictures. I hope you enjoy them.

Blessings,

Chris.

Shot of the Day 8/25/13

Good morning Seattle!

Big day today! Right, soccer fans?! Today is a HUGE Cascadia Day match between the Seattle Sounders and the Portland Timbers. 67,000 rabid soccer at Centurylink Field to watch what will hopefully be a beat down of the Timbers by the Sounders.

So, what I wanted to do would be take a photograph of that game and post it here. BUT the NFL, yes NFL, in conjunction with the MLS no longer allows anything in the stadiums. So what that means is basically no more photographs with my D800 (iPhone only and we know how much that sucks). If I am ever fortunate enough to be allowed on the sidelines then I will get different photographs, but until then I am left with a few select photographs taken before the policy change. One of those being the one in this post.

This image was taken earlier this year right before a match with the other Cascadia opponent: the Vancouver Whitecaps.

So what makes this photograph special? Well, nothing in particular except that it is a panoramic photograph. That is, one images made up of several photographs. In this case, it is made up of 6 images. So why do it? Well, first of all, there will be much more detail in the complete image than what could ever be in one image of the same frame. Second, it allows a much wider field-of-view than a standard lens could (yes, I know that you can get an ultra wide angle lens). And lastly, its just plain cool to work in Photoshop.  Yes, the 6 images I took needed some Photoshop work to complete the panoramic.

So, how was this shot. First, manually set the correct exposure. Then, start taking the photographs, overlapping about 1/3 of each image. Simple, right ? Ok, perhaps not that easy, but I’ll save more details instructions for a separate blog post. In the mean time, enjoy the photograph.

Blessings, and enjoy the game!

Chris

BTW-you need to click on the thumbnail to view it. And unfortunately, you won’t be able to see the full splendor and the detail of the image due to size restrictions of the blog.

Shot of the Day 8/18/2013

For my second ‘Shot of the Day’ post I am going to add something a little personal.

Last spring, our daughter decided to try out a new elite/premiere soccer team that was closer to home. Previously, she was playing with a Federal Way Football Club team, and they had much success, winning several tournaments and outright dominating their league all year long. But for one reason and another, she couldn’t continue with that club. So when this new team presented itself, she (and we) jumped at the chance for her to play. First up for them was the annual Federal Way Blast Off Tournament.

Their first game, as expected, came on a Friday night. No problem, right. Well, the game was a hard fought battle throughout. The ball went from one side of the field to the other with no score. Finally, with about 10 minutes to spare, Caitrin’s team had a breakout moment. One of our girls was fouled just outside the penalty box and so we were awarded a free kick. The kick came in, and Caitrin, being very tall, got her head on it and put one into the back of the net! Yay for us. Score 1-0.

The next 10 minutes was a flurry of activity from the other team. There were intent on bringing the score even and so they stepped up their intensity and focus. With about a minute left in the game, they pushed the ball forward, but it was cleared by one of our defenders and was rolling to the corner of their opposition side. Caitrin ran a foot race with one of their defenders to track the ball down. They both arrived at the same time, both hitting the ball at the same time, and both flying through the air. Caitrin tumbled in the air and came down on her shoulder. She normally pops back up right away, but not this time. There was something wrong.

Turns out she broke her collar bone. Nasty break, but not the end of the world. Needless to say, she couldn’t finish the tournament, but her lone goal in game 1 was what sent them into the finals, where the team scrapped together enough of an effort to bring about a victory.

I normally shoot all my daughters games, but unfortunately I did not manage to bring my camera to the game on Friday night. I did have it with me on Sunday, when the team won the tournament and received their medals.

Anyway, here are a couple of shots from the medal ceremony.

Blessings,

Chris.

Federal Way Football Club Reign State Cup

Greetings friends,

It’s been a while since we posted any sports shots lately, but we’ve only been following one team this last season: the Federal Way Football Club Reign ’96 girls. They are in the State Cup now after a wonderful winter season (season photographs will follow later), but here a few from today’s quarterfinal game against the Washington Rush.

Enjoy the photographs, girls. And best wishes as you continue in the cup.

Blessings,

Chris.
